The route, which begins on the left side of the gorge, commemorates József Szabó, a 19th-century geologist. It serves as a pleasant warm-up for experienced climbers while offering a genuine challenge for first-time via ferrata enthusiasts. Along the way, you can discover the rhyolite tuff rock formation, traverse the ledges used during historical millstone quarrying, and encounter millstones unearthed during the route's construction. The final bridge offers a unique experience, providing unparalleled views of the lake, the cliffs, and the quarry floor.
The marked parking spot is free, it has a restaurant next to it. Take the short, marked trail up to the tarn, where gear rental is possible.
The official difficulty rating of this route is C. The community rating fully matches the official difficulty.
The route has a difficulty rating of C and is relatively short (200 m). We do not recommend it for complete beginners, but sporty beginners accompanied by an experienced climber (on a rope) can manage it.
This is a shorter trip. The climb takes approximately 40 min, the approach 20 min and the descent 5 min. The whole activity takes a little over 65 minutes. Ideal for a sporty morning or afternoon.
This route is mainly a traverse. Although the secured section is 200 meters long, it only gains 30 meters of elevation. Most of the movement is sideways rather than vertical.
The route is physically demanding. The combination of difficulty C, length 200 m and elevation gain 30 m means you will spend more than 40 min on the rock and will need good upper-body strength.
The essentials are a certified via ferrata set (energy absorber), climbing helmet, climbing harness and sturdy footwear. Via ferrata gloves are also strongly recommended. Due to the difficulty level C, we recommend bringing a resting sling for safer and more comfortable breaks.
